The Civic Media Center is in its 20th year in Gainesville, and has been a regular at the Downtown Farmers Market since back in the Hippodrome days. The CMC is a reading room and library of the non-corporate press, hosting weekly poetry jams on Thursdays, documentary films on Mondays, and a variety of other events including live music, meetings and discussions. We love being at the Farmers’ Market because we provide food for the mind and heart by being a community resource for engaged citizens to work for a better life and world. New fliers for new events every week, come stop by!
CMC is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization depending on grassroots community support. In 2013 it also added a coffee and tea shop run by the Radical Press Coffee Collective. It has over 10,000 books and hundreds of CDs and DVDs for check-out to people who have made an annual donation. It is a volunteer run organization with one paid staff and a bunch of money to raise every month to keep things going. It is donations at our events and memberships that keep it going.
